The story behind the name
Recanto d’Idjaro is a rural boutique accommodation project set in the unspoiled countryside of the Alto Alentejo, conceived as an intimate retreat where nature, authenticity and understated luxury come together.
Inspired by vast landscapes, traditional materials and the slow pace of life, Recanto d’Idjaro invites guests to disconnect from everyday routines, reconnect with nature and experience the unique spirit of the Alentejo countryside.
The concept combines contemporary comfort with local heritage, creating a carefully designed house that blends into the surrounding landscape.
Natural materials, sustainable construction principles and a strong connection to the land define the character of the project.
The experience is designed around relaxation, slow living and authentic rural experiences, including local gastronomy, wine culture, nature walks, cycling routes, birdwatching and cultural discovery.
More than a place to stay, Recanto D’Idjaro is a sanctuary where guests can disconnect from everyday routines and reconnect with nature.
Recanto d’Idjaro was a dream — now it is a place you can feel.
The name Idjaro comes from a song by the Proprietor, inspired by an imaginary people from a mythical place where hope, creativity and community guide life.
“Recanto” means a quiet corner, sanctuary or secluded place. Together, Recanto D’Idjaro became the realization of a long-held dream, turning a poetic idea into a real destination of peace, reflection and connection.
Idjaro represents a place of emotion, inspiration, freedom and connection: a symbolic refuge where peace and authenticity can be found.
Over time, the name remained close to the owner’s heart and became associated with tranquillity, belonging and harmony with nature.
Today, Recanto D’Idjaro stands as a bridge between art and place, between memory and reality, inviting each guest to discover their own moment of peace in Alto Alentejo.
